Community Projects
Quarterly we assemble feminine hygiene packets in support of Days for Girls and contribute needlework to Gilchrist’s Veteran Salute program. Annually the Club sponsors scholarships and Thanksgiving Dinners for local Sisters Circle families. In the past, we’ve held book drives and participated in the Linus Project.
Days for Girls
Our members sew and assemble feminine hygiene kits for distribution to girls around the world. DfG International addresses the problem of period poverty (including in the U.S.A.); it is estimated that 500 million females of reproductive age have NO access to period products. Girls miss school and women miss work. We make products that are well-designed, washable, and reusable and are meant to last 3 years.
Sister Circle
Sister Circle, Inc. is a comprehensive, relationship-based program designed to mentor girls from disadvantaged Baltimore neighborhoods during their challenging transition to middle school, throughout high school, and into college.
Thanksgiving Drive
We focus on a drive to benefit this organization’s efforts to provide a Thanksgiving meal to each girl and her family. Each donation of $60 feeds a family of four. Details about the 2021 drive will be shared through Thursday podium announcements, emails, and flyers.
Holiday Greens
Volunteers provide supplies and offer guidance to Sisters Circle students so they can create their own holiday table arrangements.
Gilchrist Hospice Veterans
When a veteran enters the Gilchrist Care Center, at a bedside ceremony, that veteran is given a special pin, a certificate of service, along with words of thanks and appreciation from a fellow veteran, and most especially, a patriotic lap robe. Two years ago the Needlework Group made more than sixty fleece lap robes for this project. COVID restrictions halted the worthy endeavor. When the environment changes, we will revisit the program.
