Michael Seipp: Baltimore Painted Screen, A Local Folk Art

January 22: 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Michael Seipp, a self-taught painted-screen artist, shares his love of the urban folk art that is uniquely Baltimore. Since Czech immigrant William Oktavec first painted his iconic “Red Bungalow” in 1913, painted screens have become a beloved tradition in Baltimore’s working-class neighborhoods. Michael shares with us the evolution of painted screens through the decades and introduces us to some of the true Baltimore characters who spread this clever, colorful artform throughout the City.
