Rita Collins: What Exactly Is a Traveling Bookstore?

Baltimore native Rita Collins launched her delightful, 19-foot-long mobile book van in the tiny town of Eureka, Montana, in 2015. She has spent much of the last decade exploring the U.S. while putting thousands of used books in the hands of grateful readers young and old. Rita’s mobile bookstore does more than make books available to customers. It provides a place for children to read, an opportunity for adults to share ideas, and a way for individuals to experience something new. And as of this moment, it is the only traveling bookstore in the country and it happens to be based right here in Baltimore. What an adventure!
