Sylvia Mackey: The 88 Plan

Named in honor of Hall of Fame tight end John Mackey, who wore jersey number 88, the “88 Plan” is a health reimbursement plan designed for former NFL players diagnosed with conditions such as dementia, ALS and Parkinson’s disease. Sylvia Mackey, John’s wife, established the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (AFTD) in 2006 in order to build awareness about frontoremporal dementia (FTD). She is a tireless advocate for families struggling with the condition.
